Saab Sensis’ Aerobahn Airport surface management system has been selected by the City of Phoenix for deployment at Phoenix Sky HarborInternational Airport in the US.
The Aerobahn surface management system will help the airport manage resources, including gates and the ramp area, during irregular operations for efficiency improvement.
Aerobahn’s Dynamic Rules Alerting will allow airport operations personnel to manage the Department of Transportation’s Tarmac Delay Rule by sending alerts to staff prior to aircraft reaching the three or four-hour limit.
Saab Sensis senior vice president Ken Kaminski said that the system will offer the City of Phoenix the same platform and decision support tools that are already deployed by US Airways to ensure greater collaboration and operational efficiencies.
"This added insight into real-time airport surface conditions will also help manage irregular operations such as extreme weather events," Kaminski said.
Incorporating flight information display systems (FIDS) data for improved awareness of gate occupancy and status, the system also combines airside operational information with accurate aircraft surveillance and identification to offer a real-time, broad view of surface operations.
Authorised users can access Aerobahn through an internet connection and PC and also generate reports based on several variables for complete analysis of operations.
The system also incorporates various customisable tools that improve speed of surface operations management, including departure / arrival queues, runway use status and traffic flow monitoring, further reducing emissions while improving operational performance.
All the ongoing events can also be recorded for future playback to recognise trends and assist in developing new procedures to lessen delays or related events in the future.
