Philadelphia International Airport in the US has begun the implementation of ITT Exelis’ Symphony OpsVue flight tracking and situational awareness system.

The OpsVue system will provide a real-time view of airway and airport activity through its situational awareness, operations efficiency and collaborative decision making features to improve safe and efficient operations.

Exelis commercial aviation solutions general manager Ted Carniol said: "For Philadelphia, Symphony OpsVue’s centrally managed, cloud-based architecture delivers business intelligence both cost-effectively and on a single platform, ensuring that decisions are based on a complete view of operations."

Exelis said that the new system will also offer data visualisation options by incorporating the complete available aircraft surveillance data, which includes data from the US Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) NextGen surveillance system.

Philadelphia International is also authorising Exelis’ Symphony EnvironmentalVue system, which will allow airports to enhance their monitoring and supervise emission and noise pollution through its noise and flight monitoring, noise modelling and web-based community portal features.

According to the company, both Symphony OpsVue and EnvironmentalVue systems will provide a complete awareness of a flight’s ground and air status and further expected to facilitate airlines, airports and ground-handling companies to merge on a large scale.

Symphony OpsVue will provide mutual decision-making among pilots, controllers and airport staff by allowing clients to track aircraft and vehicle movement.

The application will further examine performance and irregular operations, manage arrivals, departures, pushback and de-icing times, as well as meet passenger bill of rights requirements.
