The overall passenger traffic at European airports grew by 3.9% in August 2013 over August 2012, according to a traffic performance report released by the airport trade body ACI Europe.
Passenger traffic grew by 2.4% at EU airports primarily due to significant growth in Poland, the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and Finland, Portugal, Slovenia, Lithuania, Croatia and Malta. However, passenger traffic declined at airports in Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

Non-EU airports registered a significant growth of 9.3%, led by Turkey, Russia, Montenegro, FYROM and Serbia.
At European airports, the overall freight traffic growth was flat at 0.0%, while aircraft movements were also flat at 0.2%.
From January to August, there was a 2.1% increase in passenger traffic growth, freight declined by 0.7% and aircraft movements decreased by 2.1%, compared to January to August 2012.
From August 2012 to August 2013, airports with more than 25 million passengers per year (Group 1), airports with 10 to 25 million passengers (Group 2), airports with 5 and 10 million passengers (Group 3) and airports with less than 5 million passengers per year (Group 4) witnessed an increases of 4.1%, 3.7%, 3.3% and 6.1% respectively.
