Nanchang Changbei International Airport in China has selected HID’s networked access control solution, contactless smart cards and readers to improve security at its new terminal.

The airport has deployed HID Global’s VertX V1000 controllers, the VertX V100 door / reader interface and iCLASS R10 contactless smart card readers in six core areas, comprising boarding gates, extra-low voltage (ELV) system area, equipment rooms, management offices and at the entrance of its aircraft operations area.

The new system will offer real-time monitoring and data management, while facilitating role-based access control settings to manage staff access at key entry points and confidential areas in the airport.

HID Global China Identity and Access Management director of sales, Eric Chiu, said: "HID Global’s smart card solutions and open architecture VertX networked access controllers are designed to meet the airport’s evolving requirements and future system expansion. VertX also enables additional deployments such as alarm configuration and other applications."

Chiu added: "Having also completed installations in other major airports in China, HID Global will continue to provide world-class access control solutions that support the rapid development of aviation infrastructure throughout the country."

HID’s system allows up to date record transmission to the central server for report generation and real-time monitoring.

The deployment of the system will help the airport restrict entry to specific areas based on the time of day as well as limit access to vital zones to authorised personnel only and define staff access control levels depending upon their job titles.

Changbei International airport, which handles over 3.3 million airport passengers a year, faces many security challenges including the potential risks such as unauthorised entry using cloned cards.

To counter the potential risks, the airport has also deployed iCLASS smart cards replacing the airport’s old employee photo ID badge system, mandating staff members to present their iCLASS credential to readers at entry points for identity verification.
