Muscat and Salalah airports report rise in passenger traffic

Muscat Airport and Salalah Airport in Oman have reported a dramatic rise in passenger traffic in January 2012.

Muscat Airport and Salalah Airport in Oman have reported a dramatic rise in passenger traffic in January 2012.

Muscat Airport reported an 18% rise in traffic whilst Salalah Airport recorded a 19% in the total number of passengers arriving and departing.

Muscat International airport served 624,744 passengers at the end of January 2012 compared to 531,034 passengers during the previous year.

The airport handled 320,210 arriving passengers during the period when compared to 271,931 passengers it handled in 2011.

Departing passenger number at the Muscat airport also increased by 17% to 292,038 during the period, compared to 250,526 passengers served during last year.

The rise in arrival and departure traffic into Muscat International Airport was due to the increase of the number of flights to airlines operating through Muscat International Airport which include Oman Air, Flydubai, Saudi Airlines, SriLankan Airlines and Asman Airways.

Muscat International has reported a 22% rise in the air cargo traffic with a total shipment reaching 9,075t by the end of January this year when compared to total shipment of 7,442t in the same period in 2011.

Salalah Airport has recorded a rise in the total number of arriving and departing passengers to 49,991 at the end of January this year when compared to 41,947 passengers during the same period in the previous year.

Salalah airport has recorded a 31% rise in the air cargo movements with a total unloaded and loaded freight reaching 132t during the same period compared to 101t in 2011.
