Mumbai International Airport is to start construction work for a new taxiway for its secondary runway (14/32).

During the construction period, runway 14/32 will remain closed until 20 January 2012.

To enhance the airport’s overall airside efficiency, the proposed taxiway will be located between the E1 and E3 taxiways.

Once the new taxiway is built, the main runway will be shut from February 2012 while a quick exit taxiway is constructed.

The two projects will help reduce the time taken by pilots to vacate the runway and increase flight movements from 30 to 48 per hour by June 2012.
