ITT Exelis has released a new version of its aircraft flight tracking and situational awareness system, Symphony OpsVue v. 1.8, incorporating diversion management capabilities and surface surveillance.

"Symphony OpsVue is a web-based system which offers flight tracking and situational awareness to airport and airline operators."

The solution will provide enhanced tracking capability to US airports that use the airport surface detection equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) runway safety tool.

Ted Carniol, ITT Exelis Information Systems commercial services principal, said the Symphony OpsVue 1.8 diversion management capability allows active monitoring for all commercial flights in the national airspace system.

"This enables automatic alerting to select airlines, airports and concerned stakeholders of current tarmac delays and aircraft diversions, allowing for safer and more efficient operations system wide," Carniol said.

Symphony OpsVue is a web-based system which offers flight tracking and situational awareness to airport and airline operators, using real-time data from the Federal Aviation Administration’s NextGen surveillance system.

The application will allow pilots, controllers and airport staff to take decisions collaboratively by enabling users to track aircraft, vehicle movements and examine performance, as well as irregular operations and manage arrivals and departures.

ITT Exelis said that the application meets all the requirements of the passenger bill of rights.

The new system also provides options that compare active diversions to a specified airport against its diversion capacity and offers capacity alerts in percentages.

According to ITT Exelis, the diversion-related fields will be offered in SmartTables and in the flight data tags for display, which shows the time of aircraft diversion, diversion destination and scheduled destination.
