Indra has received two contracts from the air navigation services provider Airservices Australia for the delivery of Doppler VHF Omni Range (DVOR) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) radio navigation systems.

The contract has been awarded as part of final phase of the Navigation Extension (NAVEX) programme, which is being implemented to renovate equipment used for assigning airways in Australian skies.

As part of contract, Indra will install a network of DVOR radio systems across the country, starting from Brisbane International Airport and continuing to remote sites in the Indian Ocean.

Indra’s radio navigation systems will assist aircraft to get positioned accurately over Australian airspace and stay on the designed route.

Additionally, the contract also includes the supply of thirty DME units, which will be deployed together with the Doppler VHF Omni Range Radio (DVOR) systems.

"The contract has been awarded as part of final phase of the Navigation Extension (NAVEX) programme."

During the initial stage of NAVEX programme, Indra delivered 20 Low Power DMEs, which were installed along with Instrumental Landing Systems (ILS), in a bid to offer accurate aircraft runway approaches and landing.

Indra will also deploy test systems at the Airservices National Technical Training Institute in Riverina TAFE, Wagga Wagga for their apprentice technical staff.

With the delivery, the number of radio navigation systems installed by Indra in the country will surpasses 200.

Airservices provides technical training under the Diploma of Engineering and Electronics and Communications and the technical staff will be offered jobs within the agency’s Facilities Management Services (FMS) division that oversees the communications, radar and navigation facilities.
