Austrian air navigation services provider (ANSP) Austro Control has gone live with the latest version of Comsoft’s air traffic management (ATM) surveillance, tracker and server, ARTAS V8B.

Austro Control previously signed a contract for complete procurement, delivery and installation, along with testing, training and support for the latest version of the V8B surveillance data processing system.

The new surveillance data processing system successfully completed its site acceptance test (SAT) in September 2011, which is the final stage prior to the handover of the system.

According to Comsoft, the system employs all available sensor input data to offer a precise and the up-to-date air situation picture to air traffic controllers (ATC).

Relying on PSR, SSR, Mode S and ADS-B surveillance sources, ARTAS applies modern tracking technology to deliver improved accuracy and reliability.

The ARTAS system will enable separation of tracking functionality from the data server functionality, allowing enhanced dedicated services for each user of ATC/ATM systems, comprising customised services for terminal manoeuvring area approach and en-route users.

ARTAS also features a Comsoft ACS middleware layer, which is a piece of SWAL3 compliant software for ATM systems to ensure compatibility with the overall ARTAS software and the latest hardware.

Comsoft said that the system supports nearly 48 input sources to provide up to 4000 concurrently maintained system tracks at the output.

Comsoft has been an industrial partner for EUROCONTROL’s Centralised ARTAS Maintenance and Support (CAMOS) since 2001; ARTAS is currently deployed by 34 European civil and military ANSPs.
