Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport in Poland has selected ARINC’s vMUSE Enterprise as its common-use passenger check-in and departure solution.

The new solution will be installed in the new Terminal 2 to handle the large number of football fans expected to attend the EURO 2012 tournament in the summer this year.

The vMUSE Enterprise hosted technology will deliver passenger processing as an Internet service through the use of economical ‘thin client’ terminals, together with an Internet connection, wi-fi service or broadband mobile card.

ARINC will manage the data processing for vMUSE Enterprise at an off-site data centre, where they access a virtualised workstation, further eliminating the use of costly servers, core rooms, and computer workstations with other systems.

On the comapany’s new hosted solution ARINC Integrated Travel Solutions senior director, Tony Chapman, said: "It is completely scalable, so the airport can add new airlines at any time or expand the airport facilities when required by simply adding additional terminal."

"This ability makes vMUSE Enterprise an attractive cost-effective passenger solution, for seasonal, mid-size, or larger airports," Chapman said.

The deployment will further pull down the requirements for on-site server maintenance, back-ups, and health checks while is expected to reduce the airports’ IT capital and support costs.

The company also said that the vMUSE Enterprise will cut the power consumption further facilitating the airports to reduce their carbon footprint.

The new Terminal 2 at the airport will allow it to handle 5 million passengers a year.

ARINC is a unit of Carlyle Group which provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defence and government customers.
