ARINC Managed Services (AMS) has launched its microFIDS Plus flight information system, an upgraded version of microFIDS.

The system can provide up-to-the-minute flight information in compact format, similar to the information available in airport terminals.

MicroFIDS Plus can be installed in different locations, including in airport concession areas or passenger areas, hotels, car rental facilities and shuttle buses where conventional flight information displays can’t be installed.

ARINC Managed Services managing director Christopher Forrest said: "These advanced features were once reserved for the most expensive display solutions and thus out of reach for budget-constrained customers."

MicroFIDS Plus comes with a facial detection feature, which helps in detecting a passenger’s unique facial characteristics without explicitly identifying the individual.

The information can be used by airports at strategic locations like security checkpoints to inform passenger about the waiting time, so that passengers can better manage their time at the airport, as well as help airports to control backups in certain passenger processing locations.

AMS microFIDS Plus can be hardwired or configured wireless to offer real-time flight information, customised to provide news, weather, local attractions and custom content.

The new system’s enhanced graphics feature facilitates the development of concierge information kiosks, which allows operator to add local area content on restaurants, transportation and other user-related information to a touch-screen display.

The information would allow the airport to offer way-finding information to passengers, allowing them to conveniently reach destinations.

The system has a 2D boarding pass scanner that can read both smart phone and paper boarding passes, allowing the passengers to receive instant gate information.
