Airservices Australia has commissioned its transportable radar to provide air traffic surveillance in Queensland, Australia.

The radar comprises a 10m-high tower with co-mounted primary and secondary radar heads, and a lightning protection pole to extend the total height to 18m.

Other facilities include an equipment shelter, a small demountable office and power supply equipment.

The transportable radar upgrade costs $5.5m and is part of a $90m nationwide infrastructure modernisation programme being carried out by Airservices Australia.

Commissioning of the transportable radar clears the way for an upgrade of the terminal area radar at Redden Creek, which is scheduled to start on 3 October 2011 and be completed by March 2012.
