Passenger traffic at European airports increased by 8.2% year-on-year during the first eight months of 2011, according to the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe.
ACI reported an increase of 4.5% in flight movements during the same period and a 3.3% increase in cargo traffic.
A 4.7% increase in passenger traffic was recorded in August 2011, while freight traffic fell by 2.5%.
The overall figure for movements at European airports increased by 2.7% in August 2011 compared with August 2010.
Among Group 1 airports, Barcelona saw the highest increase in passenger traffic at 19.1%; in Group 2, Moscow DME jumped by 20.6%; in Group 3, Venice reported a 43.1% increase; and in Group 4, Ohrid recorded a 93.5% increase for August 2011.
