An open skies agreement has been reached between the US and Japanese Governments which will establish a global aviation framework in the Pacific Rim.

This agreement will replace the existing bilateral agreement which has been established since 1952.

The move has been welcomed by American Airlines as well as other US carriers despite efforts by the dominant carrier in the market, Delta / Northwest Airlines, to derail the talks.
