Palm Springs International Airport in the US will build a new air traffic control (ATC) tower using a $2m federal grant.
The tower will cost an estimated $21m and will replace the existing six-storey tower.
In September Palm Springs City Council approved a 40-year lease from March 2010 to September 2050 with the US Department of Transportation for the tower.
Construction will begin in 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2011 or 2012.
