Siemens Mobility is to upgrade and install baggage handling systems (BHSs) at airports in Spain, Mexico and Hungary under a $17.6m contract.
The company will install systems at San Javier International Airport and Pamplona Airport in Spain, Cancun International Airport in Mexico and Ferihegy Airport in Hungary.
San Javier International Airport will receive a new luggage processing and screening system, which will serve as an extension of the present baggage screening system.
The new system will be able to screen oversized luggage items while the departures hall extension will feature 18 check-in desks, a SCADA control system, and systems for video surveillance (CCTV) and fire protection.
Work on the new system is expected to be complete in ten months.
Pamplona Airport will modernise its baggage haul system and install eight check-in desks, one check-in desk for out-of-gauge (OOG) baggage, and one inclined and two horizontal carousels in the departures and arrivals area.
The OOG baggage handling line will be installed in the airport’s arrivals and departure areas and will also include a SCADA system.
Work is expected to be complete in seven months.
Work at Cancun International Airport includes the modification and extension of the existing BHS in Terminal 2.
The project is expected to be complete by June 2010.
At Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, Siemens will overhaul and extend the existing baggage handling system.
