The master plan for the project was conceived in 2007, and construction began in March 2008.

Phases I, II and III of the development were completed in 18 months and included the construction of a new departure lounge with retail and restaurant space, 36 check-in desks, and a new security area with six X-ray machines and metal detectors.

Phase IV of the development began in August 2009 and included the construction of a new customs area and baggage sorting system as well as external landscaping works.
