Los Angeles International Airport in the US plans to build a $580m central utility plant to provide a new heating and cooling system for the airport.

The new utility plant will replace the existing outdated system and will offer a fuel-efficient way to control temperature at the airport.

The project will be funded through airline rates and fees, and is scheduled for completion in 2013.
