A new five-storey central terminal building enhancing the airport’s capacity has been unveiled at Cape Town International Airport in South Africa.
The 50,000m² building features a consolidated check-in area for international and domestic passengers, along with 120 check-in counters, 20 self-service check-in machines and a consolidated security screening point.
A $13m automatic baggage sorting system that operates 3,000 bags an hour and has additional passenger loading bridges has also begun operations.
The airport is now undertaking a $16m new road link project comprising a drop-off road in front of the building, which is due to be complete in March next year.
Provision of a consolidated car rental facility, a transport plaza, a multistorey car park and aircraft parking stands are other works being constructed at the same time.
