SITA is to upgrade existing advanced passenger information systems (APIS) at all international airports in India in order to improve the nation’s communications network and aviation safety.
APIS is a post-departure system that offers advanced messaging capabilities and passenger identification.
Basic biographical information from machine-readable travel documents such as passports and visas will be collated by the APIS system when a passenger enters a country.
The upgrades will help India conform to International Civil Aviation Organisation requirements.
