Miami International Airport in the US has installed new airport surface detection equipment (ASDE-X) in order to improve runway safety and efficiency.

Miami is the 20th airport to receive the new technology through the Federal Aviation Administration’s ASDE-X programme, which will eventually be implemented across 35 US airports.

ASDE-X, which has been created by Sensis Corporation, offers a range of surveillance technologies such as a surface movement radar, multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance – broadcast (ADS-B) surveillance information systems.
