A new liquid detection device has been developed by Juelich Research Centre in Germany, which can detect potentially harmful explosives in liquids within a few seconds.
The prototype device developed by Juelich scientists analyses liquids using a broad spectrum of electromagnetic waves, which in turn identify the molecular DNA of the fluid.
The research centre is now currently seeking a partner to market the product, although it seems unlikely that the technology will be ready until 2012.
The EU has insisted on all larger airports having a liquid identification system in place by 2012 following the ban on carrying large amounts of liquids in hand luggage in 2006.
