The Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to install new air traffic control software at two Indian airports in order to improve security and reduce delays.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in Mumbai will upgrade from existing Raytheon Auto Track II systems to Track III generation software.
The new systems are equipped with an arrival manager tool and are currently being tested at both airports with the aim of becoming operational by 2010.
The upgraded Track III features a flow management system for generating arrival lists, a medium-term collision detection alert and automatic route non-conformance alerts for aircraft.
The existing Track II system only possess a short-term collision alert to generate warnings if two aircraft fly dangerously close to one another.
