According to reports, one of the EU’s top transport officials has said that restrictions on airline passengers carrying liquids in hand luggage onboard aircraft will be extended until new screening methods are developed.

Current rules, which were introduced in 2006 and are due to expire in April 2010, are now likely to be kept in place until in 2014.

EU transport minister has reportedly discussed the idea of extending the rules until 2012 for larger airports with at least ten million passengers a year and until 2014 for other airports.
