Birmingham Airport in the UK has received the world’s first Carbon Trust Standard award for achieving a 4% decrease in carbon-based emissions despite handling increased passenger volumes during the three-year period starting from April 2006.
New technologies, initiatives and operational processes were used by Birmingham to reduce emissions, as well as programmes to improve staff awareness.
The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first accolade that requires an organisation to make significant year-on-year reductions in its carbon footprint.
