Nomura Research Institute has been selected by Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) as the planning consultant for Taoyuan International Airport.

Nomura Research was selected from the six bidders taking part in the project tender and will have to submit a plan to develop the 6,150ha airport area and surrounding land by May 2010.

The plan will be used to help secure $30bn of investment and create 80,000 jobs by 2015, reports online.wsj.com.

The Taiwanese Government had approved a prior plan in 2008 to convert Taoyuan International Airport into a state-owned company from a government agency.

This was the first initiative to develop an airport city in Taoyuan County and included development of an aviation industry zone, free trade zone, international convention centre and hotels.
