A new $23.9m international terminal will be opened at India’s Trivandrum International Airport, Kerala, in December 2009 to cater for 1.9 million passengers a year.
The 28,800m² terminal will be equipped to handle two AB-300s and one Boeing 747 aircraft and 1,600 passengers at a time.
Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan told gulf-times.com that almost 85% of the work had been completed on the terminal.
The airport has also extended its runway to 3,996m so it can cater for larger aircraft such as the Airbus A-380.
The terminal houses eight parking bays, four aerobridges and parking for 600 cars; 30 check-in counters; three security units; 18 emigration, immigration and customs counters and four conveyor belts.
The terminal itself has an eco-friendly design with an automatic temperature control system.
Passengers will be able to check in at any counter and X-ray machines will be attached to the conveyor belts side for baggage clearance.
