Under a new $35m contract, aviation IT and communications firm SITA is set to provide a number of South African airports with improved check-in and self-service facilities.

The five-year contract will see SITA provide equipment and infrastructure for both agent check-in and passenger self-service kiosk check-in for the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), which operates ten of the country’s airports.

Three international South African airports, which include Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, and a local domestic airport in Port Elizabeth, will benefit from the programme.

The contract is part of ACSA’s preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to attract roughly 45,0000 visitors to the country.
