The construction of two new airports is proposed for the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh to improve infrastructure and boost tourism in the region.

The state government proposes to build an airport in each of the Shrawasti and Kushinagar districts, as the areas are popular with Buddhist pilgrims, especially from Japan and other south-east Asian countries.

The state government has invited bids from consultancy firms to prepare project reports for the development of international airports in the area, Times of India reports.
