The Thai city of Pattaya is to have its own international airport following approval for the upgrade of U-Tapao Airport, operated by the Royal Thai Navy.
A budget of 995m baht ($29m) has been allocated for the construction of airport buildings, equipment and runways.
A terminal building, four times the size of the existing one, will be built to bring the airport up to international standards.
The new U-Tapao Pattaya International Airport will accommodate 1,500 passengers an hour and be located just 35 minutes from Pattaya City.
