The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved $4.2m in funds for runway rehabilitation at Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport in Miami, US.

Miami-Dade Aviation Department spokesman Greg Chin said the grant will finance 95% of the $4.4m project.

The remaining funds will be supplied by the aviation department and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The project will allow the airport to handle flights that usually travel to Miami International Airport.

Aviation Department spokesman Marc Henderson said that work on runway expansion is expected to begin early next year and finish in April 2011.
