Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the US has revealed $3bn plans to renovate terminals A, B, C and E.

Construction work on the four terminals, nearly all of which were originally constructed in 1974, is expected to commence in 2011 and be completed by 2017.

According to the proposal, the new terminals will have raised ceilings, fewer security checkpoints and new concession areas.

Plumbing, air conditioning and other behind-the-scenes infrastructure will be replaced and flight check-in will become more automated.

The newly renovated Terminal D, which was completed in 2005, will operate as a template for renovations to the older structures.
