Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, US, has received additional federal stimulus funds of $1.38m for new LEDs.
The funds will help finance the $10m airfield signage and runway lighting replacement project in which more power efficient LEDs will replace quartz lighting on the airfield’s west side.
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority will use the extra funds to expand its use of LED lighting and upgrade lighting on runways 5L/23R.
Early this year, the project received $4.5m in federal stimulus funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with another $2.5m coming from state government.
The airport authority has appointed Barnes and Powell Electric Company to oversee the project, which is scheduled for completion by mid-2010.
