Tulsa International Airport in Oklahoma, US, is to install a new in-line baggage handling system using federal stimulus funds.

The Oklahoma facility is one of ten airports that has been approved by the government to receive new baggage systems under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the baggage handling equipment would enhance passenger safety and provide employment for local communities.

The equipment features explosive detection technology with on-screen viewing abilities that aid Transportation Security Administration officials during baggage screenings.

The new system also decreases the number of physical bag searches and rescans.
