Tirana International Airport (TIA) in Albania has recently tested its newly expanded terminal in time for its official opening ceremony on 9 September 2009.

The new terminal’s processes, systems and staff were tested to ensure operations run seamlessly when the facility opens.

TIA’s chief operations officer Rolf Castro-Vasquez said the flight operations test was successful.

The new terminal was initially used by passengers travelling to London Gatwick with British Airways.

The expanded terminal features three new gates, 13 new check-in counters, one bank, five shops and one bar.

The terminal extension is part of phase B of the airport’s renovation plan.
