Oman Government Invites Bids for Duqm International Airport Infrastructure Project

According to reports, the Oman Government has invited bids for the airfield infrastructure package of the Duqm International Airport located in the Wusta region of Oman. Domestic and global construction firms interested in the contract so far include Galfar Engineering & Contracting

According to reports, the Oman Government has invited bids for the airfield infrastructure package of the Duqm International Airport located in the Wusta region of Oman.

Domestic and global construction firms interested in the contract so far include Galfar Engineering & Contracting LLC, Desert Line Projects, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction, Larsen & Toubro LLC, Erenport Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim, Strabag Oman LLC and Consolidated Contractors Company.

The infrastructure contract includes the construction of a 4,020m-long runway, which will be required to meet the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s code F regulations.

The project also includes the construction of a passenger aircraft apron and two taxiways that will connect the aircraft parking apron and the runway.

The third and final phase of the airport project involves the construction of a new passenger terminal facility, a cargo terminal facility, catering facilities, a control tower, staff housing and a fire station.

Desert Line Projects has already begun work on the 27.253m-rial first phase of the project. The local contractor is establishing utilities and access roads required by the airport during the operational stage.

Duqm Airport is currently being developed on a 2,700ha site to accommodate 500,000 travellers a year.

Duqm International Airport is scheduled to open in 2012.
