Heathrow Airport in the UK has launched personalised driverless travel pods that will transport passengers between the airport car park and terminals.
The new personal transport pods will consume 50% less power than the buses they will replace, are emission free and will travel at a maximum speed of 40km/h.
The airport’s fleet of 21 battery-powered pods can transport up to four passengers with their baggage at one time to the correct terminal by entering flight details into the computer.
The pods are currently in the operational testing phase and will only travel from the car park to Terminal 5.
Airport officials said that once the £25m ($41.3m) pods become completely operational, passengers will be able to board at one of three stations.
