Denver International Airport (DIA) in the US is seeking authorisation from the city council for a $7m, 1.6MW photovoltaic solar power production system for its fuel-storage and distribution facility.
DIA has submitted the required paperwork to enter into a 20-year agreement with Oak Leaf Energy Partners and MP2 Capital for the eco-friendly power project.
The solar power system will be located on nearly nine acres of land north of the airport’s airfield.
The new solar production system is projected to supply almost 100% of the fuel farm’s power consumption.
Denver Airport’s aviation manager Kim Day said that the new system was expected to decrease power costs for the airport’s cargo and airline business partners.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
