Louis Armstrong International Airport in the US is reportedly seeking over $30m in funds from the Louisiana Recovery Authority to finance various projects.

Aviation Board chairman Dan Packer said the projects include $3.5m for a new airfield lighting vault, $10.3m for a new aircraft firefighting and rescue station and $17m for a flood-resistant utility structure.

A new rescue station is essential in order for the airport to continue meeting Federal Aviation Administration regulations as current aircraft firefighting and rescue vehicles are too big for the existing station.

The utility structure will contain a 2,500kW generator that will consume 33% of the power normally used by the terminal.
