Los Angeles International Airport in the US is to upgrade its escalators, elevators and moving walkways as part of an $11.5m contract extention with HOK.

The planning, design and delivery solutions provider will replace 285 damaged or old escalators, elevators and moving walkways at the airport. The existing systems are said to have a 25-year lifespan and were first installed 27 years ago.

The move is part of an extended contract between the airport and HOK, which is now valued at over $18.3m, which will see the company continue to provide designs for the airport’s vertical improvement program up until the end of 2011.
