Perth Airport in Australia has begun construction of a $8.6m aviation rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) service facility.

The new special purpose building is part of a key national initiative to renovate airport fire service facilities and equipment.

On completion, the new facility will function at international ‘Category Nine’ norms, the second-highest service level offered at Australian airports by Airservices.

Badge Constructions is handling the construction of the new facility.

ARFF general manager Andrew Rushbrook said the new fire station located at the primary runway’s northern end would replace the existing fire station facing the domestic terminal.

He added that flight traffic has considerably increased at Perth Airport, which has resulted in the current building becoming obsolete.
