Bournemouth Airport in the UK is to receive a Cat-III instrument landing system (ILS) from Thales.

The ILS system will aids aircraft operation in low-visibility conditions by transmitting guidance data to pilots during descent.

This is Thales’s first Cat-III ILS to be authorised in the UK.

In 2008, Thales secured an order to provide and install an instrument runway visual range (IRVR) and Cat-III 420 ILS at Bournemouth Airport.

Currently over 30 Thales 420 ILS systems have been ordered by regional airports in the UK and by the Ministry of Defence.
