India’s first horizontal escalator, known locally as a ‘walkalator’, is set to be installed at Chennai Airport during August.

The moving walkway is part of the airport’s attempts to improve infrastructure and passenger amenities. It will decrease the distance that travellers have to walk within the terminals to reach the aircraft.

The airport will initially have two or three moving walkways of approximately 24m, 30m or 48m in length.
