Airport officials are striving to increase flight activity at Maria Montez International Airport in Barahona, in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican authorities have entered into an agreement with airport manager Aerodom to give a $100 discount to any travellers and airlines that use the airport.

The agreement would augment flight activity to the southern part of the country and would be effective for 12 months.

Sports and private aviatiors that use an aircraft with up to 30,000lb of freight and 12 travellers would qualify for the discount.

Travellers also need not pay the entrance or exit fee of $16.30 along with other fees associated with the ticket.

Airports Department director Andres Vanderhorst said that the agreement would stimulate operations at the airport and allow airlines from Puerto Rico to have direct roundtrip flights to Barahona.

“As the incentives will be significantly lower airfare prices, two other Puerto Rican tour operators are also planning direct flights to Barahona,” Venderhorst said
