Wellington International Airport Limited (WIAL) in New Zealand has announced completion of its NZ$11m runway overlay project.
Project work involved completely resurfacing the 1,945m runway. Every 12 years, runway surface renovation takes place at the airport.
An additional NZ$31m was spent on incorporating 90m safety extensions at the runway ends, bringing total expenditure of the project to NZ$42m.
WIAL collaborated with the Wellington City Council and Fulton Hogan, its contractor, to minimise the disturbance caused by project.
Expert advice was given by acoustic engineers on how to reduce sound pollution and practical steps were adopted to ensure that the sound produced remained minimal.
