The $1bn redesign plan of Denver International Airport (DIA) in the US may actually decrease business for vendors inside the airport, according to some concessionaires.
The proposal to improve safety will restrict Great Hall entry to only staff and travellers.
This means that anyone simply picking up or dropping off a passenger will not be able to enter, which will therefore reduce the number of probable customers for vendors inside the airport.
Airport officials, however, said the new proposal would enable vendors to capitalise on travellers trying to pass time during layovers.
Nearly 50 million travellers use DIA annually. Over 40% of the airport’s annual travellers stopover on their way to another destination.
The redesign proposal involves expansion of the Jeppesen Terminal to accommodate more businesses.
