Construction of Ethiopia’s 182m-birr international airport at Humera has been completed.

The new airport features a 3km-long, 45m-wide runway that can handle oversized aircraft such as the Antonov 124.

Transport and Communication State Minister Diriba Kuma said that the airport would help the country’s agricultural sector as products could be transported faster to global markets.

Kuma went on to state that the new airport would also improve communications between Ethiopia and bordering nations.

The government-owned Ethiopian Airports Enterprise handled construction of the airport, which has taken three years to complete and is now open.
