The airport authority of San Bernardino International Airport in California has approved a five-year airport management contract to Virginia-based Aviation Facilities Company (AFCO).

The contract states that AFCO’s management division, AvPorts, will manage the daily operations of the airport’s main passenger terminal and hangar oversight alongside other management duties.

The airport authority will retain ownership over the buildings, which include service hangars and the nearly completed main-passenger terminal, and have final say on long-term plans.

To encourage new business activity at the airport, the contract will award AvPorts an amount equal to 50% of net income from future airport operations. The contract period is scheduled to start from 1 September 2009.

The airport is located on the former site of Norton Air Force Base.
