Australia’s Darwin International Airport (DIA) has revealed a 20-year proposal that will help enhance the airport’s commercial profile.
The proposal states that by the year 2029 traveller figures could double to four million and aircraft traffic could reach 130,000 movements.
Nearly 72ha at the site have been assigned for non-aviation business and services to handle the increased traffic.
The plans also involve the extension of the airport’s road network, which includes a new access point off McMillans Road that would link with Osgood Drive.
DIA chief executive Ian Kew said a new multiple-level car park is also under consideration.
According to Kew, additional aircraft parking areas, larger terminal space, more public parking and improved road access will be needed as the airport’s facilities increase.
