Leeds Bradford International Airport in the UK is to embark on a £28m expansion programme to cater for the increase in its passenger traffic.

The two-year proposal involves a two-storey expansion to the Yeadon terminal that would increase passenger traffic to five million by the year 2012.

The project includes the construction of new security facilities and a check-in area in addition to a departure lounge and extra shops on the first floor. The extension follows a recent £2m renovation of the airport’s forecourt.

The airport’s chief executive John Parkin said that expansion work would be complete in about 15 months.
